🏛 Explore Angkor Wat & Bayon Temple – We turned temple-hopping into a treasure hunt for hidden carvings and ancient faces, and our kids were hooked.
🚲 Bike Around Angkor Archaeological Park – A great way to explore the temples while the kids burned off some energy between stops.
🛶 Visit the Floating Villages on Tonle Sap Lake – Our kids couldn’t believe houses, schools, and markets could all float on water.

Phnom Penh surprised us. Cambodia’s lively capital blends history with modern city life, and we filled our days with river cruises, royal palaces, and cultural performances.

🚤 Take a Sunset Cruise on the Mekong River – One of our most relaxed evenings, watching the city skyline and floating villages drift by.
🏰 Explore the Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda – Our kids’ faces lit up at the shimmering silver floors and golden statues.
🏛 Visit the National Museum of Cambodia – A great way to introduce our kids to Khmer art and culture without it feeling like a lecture.

Battambang was our favourite detour off the beaten path, a laid-back town with some of the most unique family experiences we found in Cambodia.

🚂 Ride the Famous Bamboo Train – A one-of-a-kind adventure zipping through the countryside on a handmade railway cart, and our kids’ favourite ride of the whole trip.

🏡 Visit a Local Farm – Our kids finally saw where rice and tropical fruits actually come from, with plenty of taste tests along the way.
🐒 Spot Wildlife at Phnom Sampeau – Watching thousands of bats pour out of a cave at sunset was a genuine “wow” moment for all of us.
💡 Parent Tip:The bamboo train is bumpier than it looks, so we made sure to hold onto our little ones tightly the whole ride.
4. Koh Rong: Cambodia’s Idyllic Island Escape
After weeks of temples and cities, we were ready for beach time, and Koh Rong delivered with crystal-clear waters, soft sand, and endless outdoor fun.

🏝 Relax on White Sand Beaches – The shallow, calm waters made it an easy, safe swimming spot for our little ones.
🌊 See Bioluminescent Plankton – A nighttime boat tour let us watch the water glow around us, and our kids called it pure magic.

The best time for a family trip to Cambodia is November to March, when the weather is dry and cooler. If you’re visiting in April or May, expect high temperatures, so plan plenty of beach and indoor activities.

Yes. We found Cambodia to be a welcoming and manageable destination for our family, with friendly locals and increasingly good infrastructure for tourists. As with anywhere, we stayed alert around traffic and kept a close eye on our kids in crowded markets.
How many days do you need for a family trip to Cambodia?
We’d suggest at least seven to ten days if you want to see Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, and a beach stop like Koh Rong without rushing. If you only have a week, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh alone make a fantastic introduction.
Is Cambodia affordable for a family of six travelling on a budget?
Yes, Cambodia was one of the more affordable countries we’ve travelled through as a family of six. Meals, transport, and many activities cost a fraction of what we’d pay at home, which let us stretch our travel budget further.
