Something We Didn’t Expect from Running World School Camps
When Brad and I first started Dream Big Travels and decided to launch our Worldschool Camps, the vision was pretty clear in our minds.
We wanted to connect like-minded families from around the world. Families who love travel and learning through experience the way we do.
We imagined kids making friends, learning from each other, and exploring a new destination together.
And that part has been exactly what we hoped for.
But something else happened on our recent Vietnam Worldschool Camp that I honestly didn’t expect.
as a busy mum myself, I know what a gift it is to spend quality time with my kids. I am glad our world school camps, help not only connect families from around the world… but also gives mums a little break as well.
The feedback we kept hearing from parents wasn’t just about the activities or the places we visited.
Parents kept saying that they actually felt like they were on holiday too.
Because Brad and I had organised everything with Mr. Quan from Hoi An Wonderlust, our local tour provider, all they had to do was show up at the meeting time and join in with their kids.
No planning.
No figuring out transport.
No researching where to go next.
No trying to find a restaurant that suits everyone’s dietary requirements and still has something on the menu the kids will eat.
Just turning up and enjoying the experience with their kids, as a family.
And honestly, we hadn’t really thought about it from that angle before.
But hearing that made me really happy.
Because as a mum myself, i know how hard we work, how much we give to our family, our kids.
Homeschool mums especially are often juggling a lot — multiple kids, different learning levels, managing the house, sometimes work, and often making this lifestyle work on one income.
One of the favourite activities on our World school Camp in Vietnam was getting to experience some of the traditional crafts together — things like wood carving, mat weaving, and even making noodles together were a highlight for many.
It’s beautiful, but it’s definitely not always easy.
So to be able to offer something where mums and dads can actually enjoy the experience with their kids, and not feel like they have to carry the whole load the whole time…
That means a lot to us…
When we started doing Worldschool Camps we thought mostly about the kids (as you do as parents) — helping them connect, learn, and explore.
But what we’re discovering is that it’s just as meaningful for the parents too.
Seeing friendships form.
Seeing kids grow in confidence.
Watching families make core memories together.
Honestly… we couldn’t ask for more than that.
We can’t wait to host more of these trips to Hoi An (and beyond) so that more families can experience what these families have just experienced.
